I know that my english is quite poor but I think it could be enough to make me understand. Even when I speak in Italian language I've some problems. I'm sure that even if I'd have to sustain an examination about Italian Grammar I'll have some problems!
I've studied English language at the Shanker Institute, many years ago and what I know about that has always been enough to allow me to work abroad. I'm conscious that my knowledge must be improved and I think that my learning will never get to the end. With this post I desire to invite GPs friends to discover together some interesting sites on Internet that can help us to maintain and improve our knowledge about this language that's so useful. ** Till some months ago, I found very interesting the site of the IHT International Herald Tribune that for each article had the mp3 file so that was possible to ear the lecture by a speaker. Unfortunately this service is not longer available. That was useful because the read articles were referring to actual facts. If someone of the GPs friends know something similar, please, let me know. Now, I suggest a brilliant initiative about VOA Voice of America that can be seen in the attached link below. In the site there's the section called Special English that help people to improve their knowledge about English language. Each article talk about real things, referring to actual facts, science, medicine, etc.. and it's possible to ear the audio files that are read slowly and with useful explenations. It's possible to subscribe and doing that, periodically we can receive that on our e-mail. On the site there are a lot of other interesting tools, useful to improve and to practice english language, like cross words and other things. The site: http://www1.voanews.com/english/news/ The written articles in Special English: http://www.voanews.com/specialenglish/programs.cfm http://www.voanews.com/specialenglish/index.cfm VOA Video on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/voavideo?blend=3&ob=4 *** Warm regards, Roberto ps- I forgot to write that it's all free.

This important exibition will be held from May 1st to October 31st.
I suggest to have a glance at the Official Web-Site. "The emblem, depicting the image of three people-you, me, him/her holding hands together, symbolizes the big family of mankind. Inspired by the shape of the Chinese character"δΈ–"(meaning the world), the design conveys the organizers' wish to host an Expo which is of global scale and which showcases the diversified urban cultures of the world." http://en.expo2010.cn/

To all the Grey-Panthers' women:
At Cape Cod (USA), on March 6th, 2010, will start the meeting 'Geek Girl Bootcamp'. http://www.geekgirlcamp.com/ I think that's an interesting opportunity for all the women that are very fond on Information Technology.

This is the real story of an old self made man who made also his special surname.
Moishe Plotnik's Chinese Laundry Walking through San Francisco 's Chinatown , a tourist from the Midwest was enjoying the artistry of all the Chinese restaurants, shops, signs and banners .... When he turned a corner, he saw a building with the sign, "Moishe Plotnik's Laundry." "Moishe Plotnik?" he wondered. "How does that belong in Chinatown ?" He walked into the shop and saw a fairly standard looking dry-cleaners. But he could see that the proprietors were clearly aware of the uniqueness of the store name, as there were baseball caps, T-shirts and coffee mugs emblazoned with the logo "Moishe Plotnik's Chinese Laundry." The tourist selected a coffee cup as a conversation piece to take back to his office. Behind the counter was a smiling, old Chinese gentleman who thanked him for his purchase. The tourist asked, "Can you explain how this place got a name like 'Moishe Plotnik's Laundry?'" The old man answered, "Ah, evleebody ask me that. It name of owner." Looking around, the tourist asked, "Is he here?" "It me," replied the old man. "Really? You're Chinese. How did you ever get a name like Moishe Plotnik?" "Is simple," said the old man. Many, many year ago I come this country. I standing in line at Documentation Centre of Immigration. Man in front of me was Jewish man from Poland ." Lady at counter look at him and say, What your name?" He say, "Moishe Plotnik." Then she look at me and say, "What your name?" I say: "Sam Ting."

As I've already posted, VOA offers, for free, a weekly feed with text and the relative audio lecture in an mp3 file.
The items are referred to many interesting and up-to-date cultural sections. Here attached you can find one of the new feed that I've received. http://www.voanews.com/learningengli...100794184.html - ps - This one is interesting, too. Very American! *Historic Route 66: The Story of America's 'Mother Road'* http://www.voanews.com/learningengli...101304174.html - VOA on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/voalearningenglish?v=wall
